What is the best "rent-a-car" option if i want to travel from New York to Jacksonville, FL for few days?
...prices/cars etc. Anyone? =) I'm planning a trip next summer there (I'm from Europe). I will land in NY and be there for few days, but the rest of the time I need to be in Florida. That is why I am considering of renting a car and drive "down there" and spending few days (and nights) in some other cities (also suggest where to go on the way to FL). Thanks all!

Compact unlimited miles, do not tell them you are going out of state and use your own car insurance, you dont have to purchase theirs. At least thats the law here in ga.

If you mean to leave the car in Jacksonville, call the N.Y. agencies and ask if they have a Florida car that needs to be returned.

My husband used to work as a branch rental manager in Jacksonville for Enterprise Rent a Car. He has relocated to a different part of the state now. I know that Enterprise at some locations has a set of one way cars. They have awesome service too! My husband would stay as late as he needed & always wanted to make sure the customer was completely satisfied. Enterprise also owns National & Alamo. I would suggest giving them a call & ask them your questions.

enterprise is good..

As mentioned, one of the biggest questions to ask is if there will be a drop off fee for leaving the car in another state. My daughter recently rented from enterprise and had a very good experience. http://naturesnook.blogspot.com/2008/09/its-true-you-get-what-you-pay-for.html Another option would be taking the train to FL and then renting once you get there Good places to visit if you decide to drive are Washington DC (lots to see and do there), the Harbourfront in Baltimore and, if it interests you, the National Aquarium is great, side trip to Savannah, GA

I'd agree with taking the train from NY to Jacksonville unless you really want to drive - it's relatively inexpensive and a relaxing way to travel. (However, get a roomette if you want to have a bit of privacy and sleep more comfortably.)
