About How long does the deer rut(2009) last in jacksonville, FL

How long does the deer rut(2009) last in jacksonville, FL?
Do bucks travel outside of their bedding areas during this time or is there no need since Jacksonville is over populated with does? If you were to use scent during post-rut how much time is needed for the scent to possibly hit it's target?

Jacksonville jacksonville, such a lewd town, it's worse than Kumi

Your asking questions that will all determine on circumstances. The rut's start and end depends on the weather. And the scent depends on how much you used, the deers distance from you, the deers location to you, and wind.

i would look for fresh scrapes,, i think in that part of the country,, the rut maybe still on if your doe to buck ratio is high there,, try some scent and grunt call also,, not all does get serviced , at the same time,, use a drag line too with scent on it as well,,good hunting

The problem with Florida is the fact that like most of the deep south, the rut is not condensed into a two week time period. I was told by biologists that in the deep south does are bred over a 4 month stretch of time. There is some truth to this because I have killed a buck trailing a doe in Oct., Nov., Dec., and Jan. over the years. This is in the state of Louisiana. However the rut varies in parts of the state from as early as late Sept.in the area my lease is in to the first week in Jan. in the state reserve close to my house. And yes the bucks will travel a lot more during the rut to try and find the first receptive does. Even though there is a healthy population of does they do not all go into heat at the same time. And the does that do not get bred the first time they are in heat will go into heat again the following month. I can't tell you much about using scent because I quit using it years ago when I found out most of the scent on the market was a mixture of man made chemicals and had no deer urine in them at all. And the ones that did contain deer urine only had to have one drop of deer urine to be able to make the claim that it contained 100% pure deer urine. Good luck!

Neither Greyhound nor Amtrak serve Jacksonville, IL. The closest bus and train stations are in Springfield There are 6 or 7 trains (depending on the day) leaving Union Station for Springfield. Fares are $18.00, $23.00, $24.00, and $33.00 each way....3 1/2 hr ride. Fill in specifics below: http://tickets.amtrak.com/itd/amtrak/FareFinder?_tripType=OneWay&_origin=chicago&_depmonthyear=2009-02&_depday=03&_dephourmin=&_destination=jacksonville%2C+il&_retmonthyear=&_retday=&_rethourmin=&_adults=1&_children=0&_infants=0&_searchBy=schedule&x=24&y=10 Greyhound has 3 buses to Springfield with a fare of $41.00 or $48.00...3 or 4 hr ride: http://www.greyhound.com/home/ticketcenter/en/step1.asp It's then about 42 miles west to Jacksonville. That means a limo. I presume the Jacksonville company will be cheaper. Either way they will have to make a round trip both times and probably charge you for it. there is no website but you can call to find out the cost and to make arrangements for pick-up. There are 2 Limousine companies in Jacksonville but they have the same address and phone number...so much for competition: Executive Limousine...and Classical Limousine 406 S Main St Jacksonville, IL 62650 (217 523-5466‎ Don't forget the CTA or METRA fare to and from Union Station or the Greyhound depot. See routes and fares below: http://tripsweb.rtachicago.com/ * I would include a meal on both legs of the round trip for 4 of you....$7.00-$10.00 x 2 x 4 = $56.00-$80.00.

Public transportation to Jacksonville is almost non-existent! You can get to Springfield easily, but the last 30 to 40 miles or so to Jacksonville is the problem. Frankly, driving might be your best choice. By the way, Jacksonville is really a very nice place!

You could meet in Lake City and then go to Gainesville. I'm sure you find someplace to go around the UF campus, especially if they win the BCS championship.
2 :
Have you been to St Augustine? its a perfect place for a romantic weekend. http://www.visitflorida.com/St_Augustine
3 :
I'd definitely go to St. Augustine. It's my favorite place in Florida.
4 :
I'd agree with St. Aug as a possibility - lots of little intimate cafes and B&Bs in the historic district plus all the various attractions. A bit farther south you have Daytona, with a better chance for favorable beach weather this time of year. Closer to Orlando, try Blue Springs State Park near Orange City - that's where the manatees spend the winter months and the viewing is often excellent (posted a good link below). Then of course there's Orlando itself, Tourist Central - too many possibilities there to list, with the major theme parks as well as all the stuff along International Drive.

you can go to st. augustine to see the fort.. Castillo de San Marcos they close at like 4pm i think..? and its like $6 to get in and they do a demonstration with the cannons...and they have the shops and eating places... why dont u go to orlando instead?? go now before gas reaches $2 again. my typical day there is spending all day there to shop, go out to eat, then maybe go to city walk/downtown disney at night.... and then go back home the same night.

About Amtrak travel to multiple cities (Jacksonville-Washington-New York-Boston)

Amtrak travel to multiple cities (Jacksonville-Washington-New York-Boston)?
My friends and I are planning out a spring break trip that will last 10 days. We want to go to three cities and we don't want to drive, so trains seem to be the most efficient way. This is our trip plan: Jacksonville, FL to Washington, DC Washington to New York City New York City to Boston Boston back to New York, DC, or Jacksonville (and any additional trips to get back to Jax) From what I can tell, a round trip ticket doesn't change the price with Amtrak. I've been reading about all kinds of discounts and also about their 15 day rail pass and a few others things. I got these prices (for 2 people): Jacksonville to DC - 182 DC to New York - 98 New York to Boston - 98 Boston back to New York - 98 New York to DC - 98 DC to Jacksonville - 182 I get a total price of about $750 that way. If we buy the student discount card and get 15% off, will that result in the cheapest possible price? Or is there a cheaper way to make so many trips on Amtrak? Thanks!

Periodically, Amtrak has unlimited travel deals by zone - they typically split the country into 3-4 zones east-west, with travel within a zone being the cheapest price. I usually only see these deals in the late summer and fall, but might be something to keep an eye out for in the Travel section of the newspaper just in case. Also, have you checked www.amtrak.com? They have a 'Deals' link as well as the ability to purchase multi-city fares.

You can try http://freetravel4ever.blogspot.com

Longer distances are better by plane. See if you can get a good deal for RT Jacksonville to DC or BWI, then take the train for the rest. (The Amtrak FL to DC takes long enough that you need to worry about food.) www.kakak.com shows some $181RT flights to Baltimore, then take the train from there to DC. Once you get up to that area, there are some dirt-cheap direct buses that will be cheaper than Amtrak. Try Megabus.com, Boltbus.com, gotobus.com, busjunction.com. (Greyhound has too many stops, these are all nonstop.)

Besides the obvious (beaches, golf, shopping), there's a water park (Adventure Landing), a number of venues where big-name acts play and dozens of clubs for local talent (best source is the Folio Weekly, a free independent paper available all around town), pro/semipro sports (Suns minor league baseball, Axemen rugby and Sharks arena football just a few currently playing, plus some Jaguars training sessions open to public), riverboat excursions/dinner cruises, numerous tourist attractions in St. Augustine, various museums, etc. Plus, Daytona and Orlando are an easy day-trip away.
